To identify yours, check the stamped collar on the liner itself, visible from the firebox or roof. “DuraFlex SS” or “HT” should appear within 6 inches of the top termination. The screws back out from thermal cycling, or the receiver itself cracks from impact or ice load. A tilted cap is a failed cap; it won’t self-correct and will eventually drop.

Here’s where DIY ends: working at roof height on a chimney stack is genuinely dangerous, and the DuraFlex crown’s compression gasket requires even torque on multiple fasteners to seal without distortion. Overtighten one screw and the gasket extrudes; undertighten and you get a slow leak that shows up six months later. We don’t recommend owner installation. The camera doesn’t guess. Neither do we.
